Club policies
Terms & Conditions of Membership
Joining the club means agreeing to these terms. They cover how membership works, the insurance that comes with it, and the standards everyone signs up to, including how we keep children safe at the club.
Membership
- Membership runs for the calendar year only, 1 January through to 31 December.
- An individual must be registered as a member of an affiliated association or club; an individual cannot seek direct membership of Table Tennis Tasmania.
- Upon registration, an individual becomes a member of the Devonport Table Tennis Association Inc., Table Tennis Tasmania and Table Tennis Australia, and is bound by the Constitution and relevant by-laws of all three bodies.
- An individual must be registered as a member where he or she has participated in at least three (3) recreational matches, three (3) pennant competition rounds, one (1) open or closed tournament, or is nominated as an official.
- Where an individual is eligible for registration under two (2) or more levels, the individual must be registered at the higher level. For example, where an individual works as an umpire and also participates in open tournaments, the individual must register for Full Membership.
Membership levels
- Recreational Membership is available for an individual who does not play in any pennant competition match or any type of tournament within Tasmania.
- Full Membership is available for an individual who plays in any type of pennant competition match and/or approved open tournament, including State League, in Tasmania. These individuals can be selected for State or National teams and participate in Open tournaments in Australia.
- Where an individual seeks registration on or after 1 October, he or she may register at the Recreational Membership level for the remainder of the year, irrespective of activity.
Insurance
- Membership (Full, Recreational, Regional and Officials) entitles an individual to coverage under the Insurance Scheme administered by Table Tennis Australia Ltd, unless the membership category states "without insurance". An individual should note any limitations of such insurance coverage before engaging in table tennis activities.
- Upon registration, a member agrees to report any injury, damage or loss suffered during any table tennis activity as soon as practicable to his or her nominated association or club.
- Upon registration, a member provides consent to medical treatment, if deemed necessary, where the member is suffering injury or illness as a consequence of participating in any table tennis activity.
Conduct, privacy and anti-doping
- Upon registration, a member agrees not to consume alcohol or illicit drugs during the holding of any table tennis activity.
- The personal information collected in the membership application is collected, stored and used in accordance with the Table Tennis Tasmania Privacy Policy, which is available online.
- By registering, a member confirms they have read, understood and agree to abide by the Australian National Anti-Doping Policy, effective from 1 January 2021, found on the Sport Integrity Australia website, being the anti-doping policy adopted by Table Tennis Australia and applicable to all members, participants and non-participants.
Child safety
Children and young people are a big part of our club, and their safety comes before everything else, including the table tennis. As a member, you agree to help us keep it that way.
Our commitment
- The club is committed to providing a safe, welcoming environment for every child and young person, at practice, on pennant nights, at coaching and at every club event.
- We follow the child safety requirements of Table Tennis Australia, Table Tennis Tasmania and Tasmanian law, including the national integrity framework's Member Protection Policy and Safeguarding Children and Young People Policy.
- Coaches, officials and any adults in regular roles with junior players must hold a current Tasmanian Working with Vulnerable People registration.
What we expect of every adult at the club
- Treat every junior with respect and encouragement. Language and behaviour around juniors must always be appropriate; ridicule, bullying and aggressive behaviour are never acceptable.
- Avoid being alone with a junior who is not your own child. Coaching, transport and changeroom situations should always involve a second adult or be in open view.
- Only take photos or video of juniors with the knowledge and consent of their parent or guardian, and never publish a junior's image or name without that consent. This includes the club's website and social media.
- Parents and guardians remain responsible for their children at club sessions unless a formal club program (such as coaching) has taken responsibility for that session.
Raising a concern
- If you see or suspect behaviour that puts a child at risk, act on it. Speak to any committee member, or contact the club president Ken Mason on 0408 372 348. Concerns are taken seriously, handled confidentially, and never held against the person who raises them.
- If a child is in immediate danger, call the police on 000 first.
- Concerns can also be reported to Sport Integrity Australia or the Tasmanian Strong Families Safe Kids advice and referral line on 1800 000 123.
